Welcome
Welcome to the Tonbridge and Malling Community Safety Partnership (CSP) Website.
Vision
The Tonbridge and Malling CSP vision is:
" working together to ensure the safety and security of Tonbridge and Maling's residents, businesses and visitors"
What is the CSP?
The Crime and Disorder Act came into force in July 1998 and required CSPs to be established in each District and Borough in England and Wales. The Act placed an obligation on local authorities and the Police (amongst others) to work together to develop and implement a strategy to tackle crime and disorder in their area.
Under the Act and the subsequent Police Reform Act 2002, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, Kent Police, Kent County Council, Kent Police Authority, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and West Kent Primary Care Trusts were designated 'Responsible Authorities' and are held accountable for this work. Other agencies have also joined with the Partnership including Registered Social Landlords, the Probation Service and Voluntary organisations.
CSP Newsletter
The latest edition of the Community Safety Partnership newsletter is now available. This edition of the newsletter gives details about a forthcoming alcohol awareness campaign, the next SNAP event on 29 October and information about successful police operations.
The newsletter also gives information about a new monthly e-mail bulletin which is available to all residents. If you are interested in receiving this bulletin please e-mail csp@tmbc.gov.uk or contact 01732 876132.
Mini-motorbikes - Know the law
There has been an increase recently in the number of complaints related to nuisance motorbike use, especially mini-motos. The Community Safety Partnership would like to remind all residents that vehicles such as off road bikes, mini motos, quad bikes and electric scooters can only be used legally on private land with the explicit permission of the landowner. Riding these vehicles in a manner or place that causes harassment, alarm or distress could lead to a formal warning and ultimately the vehicle could be seized.
If you want to ride one of these machines, do so on private land and with the permission of the landowner; and please be thoughtful of others with regard to noise.
Stop press ...Alcohol Control Zones
Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council have now agreed to set up Alcohol Control Zones in the borough giving police new powers to tackle drink related anti-social behaviour in public places. These zones will be established in West Malling, Borough Green, Wrotham, Platt and Leybourne. The existing zone in Snodland will be extended. Signs advertising the Alcohol Control Zones will be in place in all designated areas by Sunday 5 October.
The areas to be covered by the alcohol control zones can be seen on the maps for each location.
The legislation does not ban responsible adults from drinking alcohol in public places but it will help to prevent problems arising from drink related anti-social behaviour. The police will have the powers to stop a person drinking in a public place if asked to do so, confiscate alcohol from anyone causing problems and to arrest anyone who, without reasonable excuse, fails to stop drinking or surrender alcohol when requested.
